Want to be part of the most client-centered organization you’ve ever worked for?Key Assets Nova Scotia (KANS) provides residence-based therapeutic care to young people with complex needs who are under the guardianship of the provincial government. This takes place within an individual living arrangement, as an alternative model to group care. Working in collaboration with statutory bodies and community service providers KANS strives to develop and offer truly client-centered care for youth to meet the unique needs of each person we serve, and to support them in healing, developing, and thriving. Using a clinical model developed specifically for kids in care, KANS endeavors to respond to the needs of our youth in a way that is trauma-informed, proactive, and boldly innovative (while also utilizing traditional approaches if appropriate on a client-specific basis).
We are looking for committed, innovative, adaptable, and resilient Child and Youth Care Workers to provide therapeutic care to young people with complex backgrounds and needs, and we need people with an unwavering determination to make a difference. The day to day work is varied and will include one-to-one relationship building, planning and participating in social and recreational activities, teaching life skills, providing educational supports, counselling, crisis management, and developing and implementing individualized clinical intervention plans with an interdisciplinary team, all in the context of creating and maintaining a home environment for the young person you are working with.
The successful applicant(s) must be client-centered, emotionally self-aware, confident, energetic, adaptable, patient, physically active, and able to safely intervene in crisis situations. Shift work, including weekends, is required.
Education & Experience: The role requires a diploma in Child and Youth Care or a closely-related discipline (from a recognized postsecondary institution), and experience working with young people with emotional/behavioral difficulties, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
As well, successful candidates MUST be able to provide proof of the following before hiring can be completed:
- required diplomas/degrees
- clear Police Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector)
- clear Child Abuse Registry Check
- valid Driver’s License
- clear Driver’s Abstract
- vehicle you can use for work
- Standard First Aid/CPR certification
- food handling/safety course (courses are available online)
- valid proof of ability to work in Canada
- valid proof of COVID vaccination as per government regulation
